Lyon & Healy harps are among the most widely-played in the world by professional musicians, in part because Lyon & Healy has remained one of the few manufacturers of high-quality harps for orchestras, also known as "concert harps" or " pedal harps", in the world. Lyon & Healy has its headquarters in Chicago, Illinois, USA, which, in addition to being the location of the production of its harps, also contains a showroom, concert hall, and recording studios. The 100 is an excellent mid-line harp.Lyon & Healy (founded in 1864), built its first harp in 1889 and is one of the few major harp manufacturers in the world, along with Salvi of Italy and Aoyama Harp Company of Japan. Style 23s are considered top-of-the-line among Lyon & Healy models. With study and practice, it is manageable. Regulation requires manual dexterity, and comfort with tools, and some analytical thinking. If you will play in an orchestra, you need certain kinds of harps. If you will be playing at home for yourself, you can get pretty much anything. What you need the harp for is another thing. They are less expensive, as far as I know, so if cost is an issue, that is worth considering. I believe Carl Swanson’s book tells you how to do that, and Lyon & Healy will supply the parts.īased on the Camac harps that I have heard, they are not quite of the same quality of manufacturing or tone in performance.

One thing that you can do if not in the U.S., is to learn to do the basic maintenance and regulation yourself, as we all used to do, more or less. Current manufacturing seems to result in very consistently good harps. The days when they varied tremendously from one to another are long gone, it seems. They are the harp all others are routinely compared to. Style 23s have long been the gold standard in harp tone and visual beauty, for over 50 years.
